A former patient of high-security psychiatric hospital Broadmoor died after slitting his wrist at a West Hampstead care home, an inquest has heard.

Christopher Allan, 60, was found lifeless on a sofa next to a large pool of blood by care workers at his Maygrove Road flat in a supported housing block for those with mental illness.

He had been dead for several hours, St Pancras Coroner’s Court was told last Thursday.

Four days before his death, doctors caring for Mr Allen had recorded that he was not suicidal.

The inquest heard that Mr Allan, who suffered from paranoid schizophrenia, had a history of violence and was a patient at Broadmoor hospital in Berkshire from 1983 until 1992, and again from 1998 until 2010.

He was then transferred to supported housing in Maygrove Road.

Pathologist Simon Poole gave the cause of his death as loss of blood from an incision to the left wrist.

Due to a lack of evidence, assistant coroner Dr William Dolman ruled that Mr Allan did not take his own life, recording an open verdict.
