A DOUBLE stabbing in two quiet residential streets in Hornsey has left residents fearful of venturing out at night.

Two men, both aged 23, were rushed to hospital after the incidents in the early hours of Saturday.

They were found bleeding with stab wounds to their upper bodies on North View Road and Park Avenue North just after 1.30am.

Both men were rushed to hospital, where they remain in a stable condition with injuries not thought to be life-threatening.

Residents of the two leafy cul-de-sacs, which are joined together by an alleyway that also leads to Alexandra Park, described the scene on the road as "carnage" after the stabbings.

One resident of North View Road who wanted to remain anonymous said: "There was blood everywhere - there was a pool of blood just outside my house and recycling bins were lying all over the place. I don't know if they were using them as shields or what they were doing with them, but it was a mess.

"Nobody I have spoken to seems to know what it was all about."

The alleyway, and parts of both the roads, remained cordoned off by police for much of Saturday while forensics officers searched for clues.

An elderly North View Road resident, who didn't want to give her name for fear of being targeted by those involved, said: "I've lived here for 40 years and never known anything like it.

"This is the remotest part of the borough. It's only people who live on these roads who come here.

"We just don't know how this has come about."

She said the alleyway linking the two roads had been highlighted in the past as a possible source of contention and she is now fearful of people walking down it late at night.

"I've always felt so safe here but it's got to be the alleyway that has attracted this kind of thing," she said.

"We have a residents' association and neighbourhood watch and have previously discussed having CCTV installed.

"It's ok in the day but you have got to think about people walking through it in the dark.

"There shouldn't be any trouble but you just don't know what you're going to get caught up in, especially now this has happened.

"When they took the tape down in the alleyway you could still see where the blood had been."

Despite residents' assumptions that gangs are to blame, police investigating have said they are not treating the incidents as gang-related. No arrests have yet been made.

Det Sgt Mark Lucas of Haringey CID said: "We will do everything in our power to track down the perpetrators of violent offences and bring them to justice.

"I appeal to anyone with information that may assist our enquiries to contact me on 020-8345 0712 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

"Police are carrying out additional patrols in the area and will continue to make use of stop and search powers where appropriate, carry out weapon sweeps and use every available policing tactic in order to tackle knife crime.

"In an emergency or if a crime is actually taking place, call 999.
