CAMDEN Council is not as green as it claims to be, according to residents of the Holly Lodge Estate in Highgate.

Estate resident Adrienne Montes, 45, says more recycling facilities are needed because too much rubbish is being thrown away.

She said: "We are trying to conserve energy and be sensitive to the environment but how are we supposed to recycle when there are no recycling bins on the estate?"

Currently estate residents can recycle items at the junction of Oakeshott Avenue and Swain's Lane and the Junction of Langbourne Avenue and Swain's Lane.

Events organiser Ms Montes says while she carries her rubbish out to the bins, other neighbours throw out recycleable items.

She added: "I'm really fed up with it. I've been recycling for years and years - I'm a natural recycler and I find it easy to make the effort to separate my rubbish. But most people won't go to the bother of doing it when they have to walk all that way to the recycling bins. I want to see recycling points on the estate itself."

A council spokeswoman said health and safety issues and a lack of space prevented the facilities being provided on the estate.

She said: "All tenants in low rise accommodation have a once weekly kerbside recycling collection on a Thursday.

Camden is looking to reduce the amount of refuse going to landfill, and to make recycling easier for Camden residents."
