A leading Highgate independent school’s new building has won recognition at a prestigious awards ceremony.

The Charter Building, a new wing of Highgate School, was commended along with 33 other projects at the Civic Trust Awards on Friday.

The teaching building, which first opened its doors in September 2012, houses the school’s main entrance in North Road and provides 12 classrooms, a science laboratory, and an IT suite.

An affordable-homes scheme in King’s Cross also scooped an award at the ceremony held in Blackpool.

Saxon Court and Roseberry Mansions, in York Way, provides 60 social housing flats, 40 shared ownership homes and 40 homes for the elderly.

The project, designed by Maccreanor Lavington Architects, was one of 39 schemes to pick up an award at the 55th Civic Trust Awards.
