A POLICE officer from Highgate has been convicted of sexually assaulting a subordinate officer at a Christmas party.
Openly gay Sergeant David Stevens, 37, of Avenue Road, was found guilty by a jury at St Albans Crown Court of molesting a drunken male colleague who had passed out in a room in a hotel in Hertfordshire.
Judge Martin Griffith told Stevens, who sobbed in the dock: "There is only one sentence I can pass and that sentence is one of immediate custody."
The judge agreed to grant Stevens bail for a psychological report to be prepared before he passes sentence.
