Speculation is mounting that barrister Alex Goodman has landed a third Highgate seat for the Green Party on Camden Council.
The result is due to be declared at around midday, with a high turnout expected because the by-election was held alongside the mayoral and GLA votes.
Mr Goodman, 30 is human rights and planning barrister who represented campaigners trying to stop the King's Cross development.
However, Conservative Richard Merrin, 41, who runs a PR agency, is still confident that he has won enough votes to keep the seat in Tory hands following the unexpected resignation of Paul Barton, who was criticised by opponents for his poor attendance record at council meetings.
