Yet another score draw in the north west saw Spurs relinquish the lead at a windswept JJB Stadium on Saturday as Emile Heskey scored a rare home goal to earn Wigan the point that should see them safe.

It had all started so well for Tottenham. Tom Huddlestone's lovely pass from left to right set Aaron Lennon away down the right flank and he picked out Dimitar Berbatov, who slotted home from six yards.

Within a minute Lennon was again wriggling his way into the home penalty area to set up Steed Malbranque whose first time effort was blocked by Chris Kirkland.

Soon after, Robbie Keane sliced a 20-yard shot wide when well placed before losing possession cheaply in midfield which led to Heskey equalising.

Spurs had a penalty appeal turned down by referee Lee Probert after 33 minutes when Berbatov and Mario Melchiot tangled as they tried to connect with a Jermaine Jenas free kick.

Three minutes before the break Berbatov nodded on a Jenas corner to Michael Dawson, whose header was cleared off the line by Ryan Taylor.

Six minutes into the second half Huddlestone again sent Lennon away to run at the home defence but. Kirkland blocked his effort from an acute angle.

Then, just before the hour mark Spurs had a big let off when Marcus Bent smashed his shot against the underside of the Spurs crossbar.
