Weeks of tension between gipsies and tenants on the Westcroft Estate, West Hampstead, erupts into violence as one of the prefabs on the estate is burned down and bricks and bottles are thrown at police and firemen.

Up to 40 more test-tube babies may be born at the Royal Free Hospital in the coming year, predicts Professor Ian Craft, professor of obstetrics and gynaecology, following the historic birth last week of test-tube twins.

Cypriot refugees from the 1974/75 war on the island between Greece and Turkey - many of whom live in Camden - have won their fight to be allowed to stay indefinitely.

The name of Drazin, which has adorned Heath Street, Hampstead, for more than 50 years is to disappear as Mr I Drazin concedes that it is time he retired - at the age of 83. He founded the business in 1927.
