Hampstead's first concerted evangelical drive begins to overwhelming public response. Hundreds flock to St Stephen's Church, Pond Street, for the opening of the 1957 Mission to Hampstead. At one time the queues stretch across Rosslyn Hill and Pond Street, blocking cars and buses.

Hampstead Heath and Old Hampstead Protection Society is to lodge a complaint with the LCC about the condition of the ponds on the Heath, that several of them need clearing out.

A scheme to build skyscraper flats at Parliament Hill Fields has been turned down by the LCC. St Pancras council argues that only by including tall blocks in its next four housing schemes can it solve its decanting problem. More people are turned out of old slum properties than the council is allowed to rehouse in the new permitted density of only 100 to the acre.
