THE heartbroken family of a Fortis Green pensioner who has been missing for more than a fortnight say they are desperate to have him home.

The last sighting of Gelsimo Ronchetti, 78, of Fortis Green Avenue, was on the 234 bus on February 3 - but a fortnight later police are still waiting for CCTV footage of the journey from TfL.

It is understood the transport firm is claiming the time period given - between 10.30 and 11am - is too wide, leading to the long delay.

Speaking for the first time, Mr Ronchetti's son Marco said the family are stunned by his disappearance at a time when everything was going so well.

He said: "I'm getting married in July and he was looking forward to it. It was probably one of the happiest times of his life - he has a grandson who is the apple of his eye and it's just completely out of character."

Mr Ronchetti looked forward to a regular visit from his two-year-old grandson every Wednesday, so the family are puzzled as to why he disappeared.

"It could possibly be memory loss - lots of things have gone through our heads," said Marco. "We are hoping there will be a lead from somewhere, someone might have seen him. We are hoping he might be in hospital somewhere but the information has not got through to us.

"It's just a very devastating time for all of us."

Mr Ronchetti's Freedom Pass was traced as far as Waterloo at 9.30am, but the sighting on board the 234 bus comes an hour later, leaving the family desperate to see the footage.

A TfL spokeswoman said they were speaking to bus operator Metronet, to resolve the issue.

Mr Ronchetti has a strong Italian accent and is about 5ft 8ins tall, of a medium build with brown eyes. It is believed he was wearing brown cord trousers, a half-length brown jacket and tan shoes.
