BOSSES at University College London Hospital have laid out their expenses claims following the example set by their peers at the Royal Free and Whittington hospitals last month.

An investigation by the Ham&High revealed that chief executive Sir Robert Naylor, who has held the position since 2000, claimed 7,404 in the financial year 2005/06, 4,580 in 2006/07, 3,866 in 2007/08 and 4,132 in 2008/09.

For the same years chairman Sir Peter Dixon claimed 1,248, 1,176, 936 and 4,171 respectively.

A spokesman said: "These expenses include costs such as parking, train tickets, taxi fares, business meeting costs and consumables such as office stationery. For example, for 2008/09 the chief executive's expenses can be split into personal expenses of 2,327 for travel and 1,786.92 for corporate expenses."

He added that the chairman's figures for 2008/09 included the costs of room hire and food for external board events that could not be charged directly to the hospital and were subsequently re-imbursed.
