A much-loved Hampstead gym has been saved thanks to the Royal Free Hospital.
The Armoury in Pond Street, which has more than 2,000 members, was at risk after Camden Council said it could be sold for £1.5million.
With just one month left for negotiations with the Jubilee Hall Trust (JHT), which runs the gym, the Royal Free Charity has offered to buy the building’s freehold from the council.
Royal Free Charity chief executive Chris Burghes said: “There’s a real synergy between the service the armoury provides and what we as a charity support.
“This works for everyone. My trustees are very keen to secure the future of the Armoury because it’s a real centre of wellbeing within the community.”
The hospital charity has offered a fresh lease to the JHT. The deal is set to be finalised at a council cabinet meeting next month.
