PYJAMAS were the dress code at a supermarket's fundraiser to help deaf people.

Staff at the Archway Co-op donned their finest nightwear to raise cash for the Royal National Institute for the Deaf last week.

Store manager Colin Minten said: "Serving shoppers in our pyjamas has created some strange looks but it's also got our fundraising for RNID off to a good start.

"It's such a worthwhile cause and hopefully has given people a wake-up call about their hearing."

The cash is tipped to reach some of the four million people in the UK who are losing their hearing but doing nothing about it.
