A new exercise craze may be about to kick-off in Camden, as a fitness instructor adds a burst of rhythm to the this year's health regime.

Fitness trainer Chrystle Perkins is starting weekly Reggae-robics classes at the Royal Free Hospital Recreation Club, in Fleet Road, Hampstead.

The 27-year-old hopes that it will be the next zumba, and the class combines African beats with dance moves as a form of exercise.

“The class is solely based around dance hall Jamaican moves and moves that come from Africa,” explained Miss Perkins. “It’s all in tune with Jamaican music, but it’s not just reggae.

“My classes are more upbeat than that.”

She added: “I started it in late November to get people thinking about losing a bit of weight before the end of the year.

“And now it’s the same thing for January – everyone is in their post-Christmas pudding phase.”

The classes take place every Tuesday, at 1.15pm and all abilities are welcome.
