TWO social workers who were sacked over the Baby P case are due to take Haringey Council to tribunal today.
Gillie Christou and Maria Ward claim they were “unfairly dismissed” by the local authority following the public outcry over Peter Connelly’s death.
Peter was just 17-months-old when he died in a blood splattered cot in August 2007.
He had suffered 50 injuries despite being on the at-risk register and receiving 60 visits from social workers, police and health professionals.
Ms Ward was Peter’s social worker from February 2007 until his death and Ms Christou was her team manager.
Haringey insists it followed proper procedures when it dismissed the pair for “gross misconduct” in April last year.
The employment case will be heard at Watford Employment Tribunal in Hertfordshire.
Peter’s mother, Tracey Connelly, her boyfriend Steven Barker, and his brother, Jason Owen, are all serving prison sentences for causing or allowing the little boy’s death.
