The new speed restriction is in place, covering approximately 800 residential roads and streets with schools.

Children from West Green primary school demonstrated yesterday how they prepared for the changes with their drawings of 20mph road safety pictures.

The new 20mph limit will be in place in all residential streets except private roads.

Haringey Council say experts believe a 20mph limit could reduce personal injury accidents in the borough.

Cllr Claire Kober said: “We’re proud to be one of the first London boroughs to roll out a 20mph speed restriction on 800 of our residential roads in Haringey. The council has made a commitment to improve road safety across the borough and to make our roads more pedestrian and cycling friendly. The safety of our residents is a major priority for us and these new changes will lead to fewer accidents on our streets.”

Islington and Hackney Councils have already introduced 20mph limits.
