Twenty textile recycling bins have been introduced across the borough to make it easier for residents to recycle unwanted clothes and shoes.

Haringey Council hopes the bins will encourage more people to donate clothes rather than simply throwing them away.

The council is also offering schools free creative workshops aimed at inspiring children to recycle.

Haringey's environment and conservation boss, Councillor Brian Haley, said: "All too often, unwanted clothes and shoes are just thrown out with the rubbish when they could be reused.

"I hope residents will make use of these new bins and ensure that clothes and shoes are put to good use - rather than being unnecessarily sent to landfill or incineration.

"I'd also encourage schools to take up the offer of the creative workshops and help us further cut waste in Haringey."

Sites the new bins have been installed at include:

o Opposite Embassy Court, Bounds Green Road, N11.

o Rear of Wood Green Library/Morrisons car park, N22.

o Alexandra Park Road, junction with The Avenue, N22.

o In front of Noblefield Heights, opposite junction with Woodside Avenue, Great North Road, N2.

o Muswell Hill Road, Archway Road end, N6.

o Behind Hornsey Library, Haringey Park, N8.

o Site on Newland Road, N8.
