Haringey Council leader Cllr Joseph Ejiofor was “proud” to see his borough become a fully accredited London Living Wage employer and fulfil a manifesto pledge.
At an event hosted by the Living Wage Foundation at the Barbican, London Mayor Sadiq Khan presented Cllr Ejiofor with a certificate of accreditation.
The council pays its staff the wage, which has just risen to £10.55 an hour, and is working with its suppliers and partners to encourage them to pay it too, as well as to give all staff full trade union rights.
Haringey Council Leader, Cllr Joseph Ejiofor, said: “Ensuring that all our staff earn enough to have a decent quality of life is a fundamental part of our commitment to making Haringey a fairer and more equal borough – it was a key manifesto pledge.”
The level of the London Living Wage is calculated by the Greater London Authority and provides a benchmark for employers that voluntarily choose to ensure their staff earn a fair wage.
