Haringey Council is searching for residents, businesses and organisations who have gone the extra mile to improve their environment over the past year.

Nominations are being invited for the council's annual Better Haringey Awards.

The awards recognise outstanding environmental achievements and encourage others to adopt greener practices and lifestyles.

It could be an individual who has taken steps to cut energy at home, a school which has encouraged all of its pupils to recycle or a business that is leading the way on reducing waste.

This year, there are six awards up for grabs - sustainable school, greenest public sector office, sustainable streets, greening your home, sustainable travel and green business.

The council's environment and conservation boss, Councillor Brian Haley, said: "We are continuing to introduce a wide range of policies to tackle climate change and improve the environment as we strive to become the greenest borough in London.

"But we can't achieve that ambition without the help of our residents, other organisations and businesses.

"The Better Haringey Awards are our chance to say thank you for all their efforts.

"I hope the awards and the wider Green Fair weekend will also spur on others to think of ways they too can help protect our environment."
