A spokeswoman for Transport for London said the problem was caused by power failure and that engineers were urgently investigating to get the lifts working again.
It caused major problems for commuters trying to get into work this morning.
In December last year a lift at the station holding 15 terrified passengers plummeted from street level to platform level because of a power failure, although no one was hurt.
