A nanny to the stars who left a two-and-half-month-old baby with brain damage and a broken arm 'in an act of genuine cruelty' was jailed for three years on Monday.

Jasmin Schmidt, 34, from Primrose Gardens, South Hampstead, who had previously worked for an A-list celebrity, lost her temper with the baby during a 'restless night' in September 2002 and shook him violently, the Old Bailey heard.

Last month she was unanimously convicted on two counts of grievous bodily harm.

Jailing her on Monday, the judge Jeremy Gold QC said: "It was an act of genuine cruelty and you should be ashamed. You are obviously not ashamed because you continue to deny responsibility.
