The Hampstead Heath dams project has been rubber-stamped by the City of London Corporation.
The £15million scheme, which will see dams raised by up to 5.6metres, was approved this afternoon by the Corporation’s Hampstead Heath, Highgate Wood and Queen’s Park Committee.
Opponents of the project, led by the Heath and Hampstead Society, are now expected to launch a legal challenge.
They say the City, which has been the Heath’s custodian since 1989, will “permanently disfigure” the cherished landscape if the plans are not stopped.
