Seven-year-old Claire Niumata’s design was chosen from nearly 200 entries to the annual Hampstead Christmas Festival art comp and will now grace the cover of 10,000 copies of the programme.

The pupil of Hampstead Parochial School, in Holly Bush Vale, Hampstead, impressed judges with her lively illustration – which stood out among a flurry of reindeer-based entries.

Julie Squires, one of the festival’s organisers, who has worked for festival sponsor Savills for 25 years, said: “They were so different, some were ink drawings, some oil-based.

“I think we came out with some excellent work. The entries were just amazing and it was just so hard to choose.

“Claire’s piece was really quirky, it was a very abstract reindeer and really cute.”

Thousands are expected to attend this year’s festival from 12noon to 5pm on Sunday, November 23, to enjoy a funfair, petting zoo, fire eaters, music, Santa’s Grotto, food stalls and more.
