A Hampstead Garden Suburb couple raised almost £900 for charity by opening up their garden to the public for an afternoon.

David and Marjorie Harris, of Erskine Hill, the Suburb, welcomed visitors to their garden on Sunday as part of their annual open garden event.

Visitors were treated to tea and home-made cake and were also able to buy a range of plants, including tomato plants and perennial white stock.

There were 185 visitors over the day and all the proceeds raised will go to charities supported by the National Gardens Scheme.

Ms Harris said: “It was absolutely magnificent, the best we’ve ever had. We were very lucky with the weather, the first time we’ve been lucky in four years! It was glorious sunshine.

“There were people sitting all over the garden drinking tea and eating cake, really enjoying themselves.”
