HOLLYWOOD A-lister Gwyneth Paltrow is showing her Belsize Park neighbours how to spring clean kindly - by teaming up with a Hampstead business to sell her clothes for charity.
The 36-year-old star has called in Haverstock Hill eBay experts Flogit4u to sell 100 of her designer pieces to raise money for the Robin Hood Foundation.
The foundation fights poverty in New York and will gain thousands of pounds from the sale of the Chanel handbags, Jimmy Choo stilettos and Armani sunglasses which are among the items on offer.
Flogit4u managing director Phillip Davies said: "Gwyneth is a neighbour of ours and is obviously familiar with what we do.
"Her PA popped in and asked if we'd be able to sell the items for her.
"She had a big clear-out of her wardrobe and wants to raise money for one of the charities she's involved in.
"We've been working our way through the items - photographing them and packaging them.
"There are some amazing pieces from Jimmy Choo to Lanvin to Balenciaga."
Ms Paltrow lives in nearby Belsize Park with her husband and Coldplay singer Chris Martin and their two children Apple, four, and Moses, three.
The site was launched before the Easter weekend and already some items are reaching close to £1,000. One item is a Valentino handbag embossed with "G.P." on an inside tag.
Mr Davies said that shoppers had been flocking to the site to pick up designer bargains for a range of prices.
"There is a mix of expensive designers and not so expensive ones and we are putting up new items as we go," he said.
"We hope to raise thousands for the charity. It is really nice to come across celebrities who are so kind - especially when people are feeling the burden.
"Sometimes celebrities can come across as though they live in a bubble. So it is nice that some do things like this and show they are aware of the world going on around them."
Ms Paltrow is currently in America but told fans she
was planning to help the charity
on her lifestyle website www.goop.com.
The actress wrote: "In keeping with the idea (as my mom says) of shopping in your closet, I recently did a good look through and found some things which I will now call vintage as well as doing a big cathartic spring clean-out.
"I thought maybe I would eBay some of my favourite and most treasured things to raise some money for the Robin Hood Foundation, which does a lot of amazing work in New York City."
Flogit4u sell items on eBay for clients, photographing them and uploading details as well as dealing with the admin and did a sale of Meg Matthews' old clothes and furniture in 2007.
