1988:
Left-back Kenny Sansom, who lost the captaincy two months ago to 20-year-old Tony Adams, is unconcerned at being dropped for the home match with Newcastle United.
New 400,000 signing Lee Dixon plays at right back with another new face, Nigel Winterburn, switching Sansom's left-sided defensive role.
'I am being rested and I am quite happy about the situation. The manager is making use of our squad of players," he said, before adding tersely, "I've no comment to make about my future. I'll just have to wait and see.''
The Gunners draw 1-1 with Perry Groves giving them the lead before a late Paul Goddard leveller for the Magpies. It was Arsenal's seventh successive home game.
Meanwhile, Sheffield Wenesday winger Brian Marwood signs for 450,000.
