Arsenal moved eight points clear of Liverpool at the top of the Barclays League Division One after substitute Martin Hayes's late goal earned them a 1-0 win at Middlesbrough.
Hayes netted three minutes after coming off the bench when he ran on to an Alan Smith flick-on to fire past Boro keeper Kevin Poole.
Arsenal manager George Graham, however, said his side will get even better in the 1990s: "We're still learning. We can improve on this by 40 per cent next season."
