Allen, who played just three pre-season games for Arsenal, headed to Selhurst Park along with goalkeeper Paul Barron. In return England defender Kenny Sansom arrived at Highbury while the Eagles paid an additional �400,000.
Three days later, Sansom had a hand in Frank Stapleton's winner as the Gunners opened the season with 1-0 win at West Brom.
