ARMED men threatened staff with a gun while they robbed a massage parlour in Crouch End in the latest in a line of violent attacks in the area.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the robbery at Lanacombe Sauna in Crouch End Hill at approximately 11.55pm on Monday (January 5).

Two men, one with a knife and the other with a gun, forced staff to hand over property and made off with a quantity of cash, mobile phones and an iPod.

According to police, one suspect, described as a black man aged approximately 25 years old, attended the venue earlier that day between 3pm and 4pm and had arranged to return later with his brother for a treatment.

As closing time approached, he returned with another man, described as white and about 25 years old.

After the attack, where no one was injured, both suspects are believed to have run off up Crouch End Hill.

DS Noel Stoddart said: "We are looking at CCTV and doing everything we can to trace the suspects.

"If you have any information that could assist our investigation of this offence please contact us."

An employee at the parlour, who did not want to be named for fear of reprisals, said: "We are all very scared now. There were cameras outside and we hope the police can help. No one was hurt but they were all stressed and very shocked.

"There were about six people working that were all threatened. I feel very nervous now."

In November, armed thieves held two men hostage at gunpoint as they robbed WHSmiths in Muswell Hill and, in October, two masked robbers threatened staff at the Nat West bank in Crouch Hill, making off with a quantity of money.

Crouch End councillor and Lib Dem police spokesman, Ron Aitken, said: "I'm glad nobody was injured but it does indicate there are serious armed crimes going on in Crouch End and Muswell Hill.

"As the recession bites, criminals are going to take more risks in order to get their hands on more money.

"A massage parlour is a soft target compared with the security banks use. It's an alarming development."

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Lee Davison or DS Noel Stoddart of Haringey's Robbery Squad on 020 8345 0870 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
