A former council candidate and a management consultant have been chosen to stand for the Green Party at the next general election.

Kirsten de Keyser, who was less than 200 votes from becoming a councillor in Highgate in May, will stand in Holborn and St Pancras. Party leader Sian Berry contested the seat at the snap-election last year. Meanwhile David Stansell, who stood for West Hampstead in May’s local elections will run in Hampstead and Kilburn.

Selection meetings took place in early October, with the Green Party expecting a snap election before the next scheduled general election in 2022.

Kirsten, who is also the former chair of the Highgate Society, said: “I know that [this] is a formidable fight, but it is really important to me that a green, progressive message, a new politics if you like, forms part of the debate. Like many, I’m tired of the old slanging match between Labour and the Conservatives. That’s just a total waste of the voters’ time.”
