German giants step up their interest in Arsenal striker

Nicklas Bendtner has had enough of sitting on the bench, and Europe’s top sides have been alerted to his possible availability

Bayern Munich have confirmed they are monitoring Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner’s situation.

The Denmark international has hinted he could leave the club – despite Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger reiterating last week he had no plans to sell.

Bendtner returned from injury last month with two goals in as many games but was left out of the squad for last Sunday’s 2-1 win at Everton.

Wenger claimed it was due to injury, but with Marouane Chamakh making an excellent start to his Gunners career, Bendtner’s future remains uncertain.

Four-time European Cup winners Bayern confirmed he is on their radar when club legend Franz Beckenbauer was quoted as saying: “Yes, he (Bendtner) is among some players, who have done very well - both for Denmark and for his club, and who has got the class and the potential to play in a club like Bayern Munich, where we already have a lot of class players.”

Wenger, though, said last week the strong-willed Dane must show patience – and he still has a future at the club.
