CROUCH End computer hacker Gary McKinnon might avoid extradition to the US by serving time in a British prison, David Cameron has suggested after recent talks with president Barack Obama.
After his meeting at the White House, the PM told BBC Radio 5 Live that the government had discussed with the US ambassador the possibility of "some of the (sentence), if there is a prison sentence, being served in a British prison."
Former Highgate Wood school pupil Mr McKinnon, 43, is facing up to 60 years in jail in the US for hacking into the country's military computer system. The Asperger's sufferer said he was looking for evidence of UFOs.
Janis Sharp, Mr McKinnon's mother, has been fighting for her son to be tried in this country for years and is over the moon with the latest development.
