Camden Council has put up safety signs warning residents to stay off water frozen last week which is even more likely to be dangerous now it is thawing.

Several deaths have occurred elsewhere in the country with walkers falling through ice, and dog walkers have been told to be especially vigilant insuring their pets keep off the ice and they do the same.

Deputy Camden Council Leader, Andrew Marshall sent out a snow email update to residents today (Monday).

It said: "Ponds are starting to thaw which means they are more dangerous than before. We have safety signs in place and staff are warning residents to keep off them."

The break from the big freeze may not be permanent though forecasters warned. The latest reports suggest the snowy spell may return with force tomorrow and Wednesday.

Councils have also asked residents not to waste grit in roadside bins.

The shortage of grit across the country has been particularly felt in central London with extremely low amounts remaining and the possibilities of new deliveries still in doubts.

Cllr Marshall said bins wouldn't be replenished "for some time" as they focus resources on the "main road network".
