The former leader of the Conservative Party youth wing has romped to victory in a Camden Council by-election for Hampstead Town.
Oliver Cooper, a former chairman of Conservative Youth, polled more than half the votes cast in a by-election yesterday triggered by the resignation of former councillor Simon Marcus who stepped down in March to focus on his fight as Hampstead and Kilburn’s Tory parliamentary candidate.
Mr Cooper was announced as the clear victor moments ago in Somers Town Community Centre with 2,693 votes.
Labour’s Maddy Raman finished in second place with 1,381 votes, the Green Party’s Sophie Dix polled 597 votes, Liberal Democrat Yannick Bultingaire received 543 votes and independent candidate Nigel Rumble finished last with 73 votes.
