A community group has appealed for volunteers to help restore a fountain saved from demolition in the 1960s - and follow in the footsteps of eminent biologist Sir Julian Huxley and former MP Michael Foot.
The South End Green Association uses an image of the fountain as its emblem and would like to hear from people who can help clean its masonry and get water flowing again this summer.
In 1966 the association successfully fought plans for a motorway flyover above the derelict fountain in South End Green, which was first installed in 1881.
It has restored the fountain roughly every 20 years since the association’s inception and the last two renovations were overseen by Sir Julian, brother of Brave New World author Aldous Huxley, in 1971 and Labour stalwart Mr Foot in 1993.
