THE LONDON Fire Brigade are warning people not to be alarmed on Thursday when they carry out a planned training exercise on Hampstead Heath.

The routine exercise, which will be undertaken from 2pm, will involve six fire engines being driven to the area around the Mixed Bathing pond near South End Road.

Fire-fighters will practice emergency life-saving procedures using throw lines and a raft walkway on the pond.

A City of London Corporation spokeswoman said: "The City of London Corporation works closely with the London Fire Brigade throughout the year and we are grateful for their assistance in aeration of the ponds and in dealing with fires from barbecues which are not permitted on the Heath.
