Former Hornsey and Wood Green MP Lynne Featherstone will enter the House of Lords as a life peer having lost her parliamentary seat in May.
Ms Featherstone was today named as one of 11 Liberal Democrat politicians to be given a peerage in recognition of their public service.
The 63-year-old, a Highgate resident, was beaten in the general election by Labour’s Catherine West having served as Hornsey and Wood Green MP since 2005.
She served as a minister throughout the duration of the coalition government, starting as an equalities minister before serving in the Department for International Development (DFID) and then finishing her time in government as a Home Office minister.
Dame Tessa Jowell, another Highgate resident, is among the list of Labour politicians named today as new peers.
