Haringey Council has signed up to the Stonewall pledge to do more to battle for LGBT+ equality.

Leader of the council, Cllr Joseph Ejiofor, signed the “Come out for LGBT” pledge, which is backed by the charity, which campaigns for the rights of LGBT people.

It comes after they joined Pride in London celebrations at the weekend, with council staff wearing “HarinGAY” t-shirts, and community groups descending on central London to campaign for LGBT+ equality.

As part of the celebrations, Haringey flew the rainbow flag above the civic centre in Wood Green.

Cllr Ejiofor said: “Haringey is one of London’s most diverse boroughs, and that is something that we love to celebrate.

“Pride season is a chance to make our voices heard and show support for the LGBT+ community, in Haringey and across the globe. I’m thrilled that Haringey was represented at Pride – it’s vital that our borough continues to play a role in the fight for LGBT+ equality.”

The leader’s personal pledge as an LGBT+ ally was to “continue to fight for LGBT+ equality in Haringey and beyond,” and to “lead the way” for the community.
