English Heritage descended on Hampstead to examine an archaeological find in Pond Street on Friday.
Heathman had visions of a priceless bounty of Roman silver – but alas the reality was far less exciting.
The workmen had simply stumbled upon a section of old wall on the site near to The Armoury gym and the Royal Free Hospital.
The archaeologist did not deem the find important enough to halt the development.
A spokesman for English Heritage said: “The wall could have been the original back wall of 23 Pond Street, a listed historic house built about 1760, or part of an earlier building on the site.
“The development will not involve significant digging so this feature will be preserved beneath the back yard.”
