Council to run consultation on plans for Hampstead Neighbourhood Forum

A campaign to set up a new community pressure group with the power to influence Hampstead’s future has taken a major step forward.
Camden Council has agreed to run a six week public consultation on setting up the Hampstead Neighbourhood Forum in June.
The consultation should decide whether there is enough support to formally recognise the forum under the Localism Act.
Under the act, neighbourhood forums – which have already been set up in Highgate, Dartmouth Park and other areas – can influence matters such as an area’s planning policy.
Janine Griffis, who has already been appointed chairman of the Hampstead Neighbourhood Forum, said: “It’s an important step because it means Camden is satisfied that our membership, of nearly 400 people now, is reflective of the area.
“We have no doubt that we will become a designated forum.”
