Funnyman Michael McIntyre has upset members of the Heath and Hampstead Society for crudeness - not of his jokes but plans to renovate his home.

The comedian, 39, has submitted plans to Camden planners to carry out alterations at his home in Hollycroft Avenue in the Redington and Frognal conservation area.

The plans include enclosing part of a terrace to form a study extension with modern obscured glazing to provide privacy a new large terrace at second floor level and

But in a letter of objection the society, whose role is to protect the historic character of Hampstead, have criticised the plans as “crude” and “destructive”.

The society writes of the proposed changes to the Dutch style house: “This is a locally listed house, requiring special consideration to its architecture and urban character in our conservation area”.

It continues: “It is apparent the developer has no concept whatever of what is necessary to maintain such standards.

“The proposals display a crudeness of design that would be very destructive of the house’s fine features.”

It urges planners to refuse the application.

Comments on the application can be made on the council’s website until August 27.
