A new “coffee cup map” has been launched by Camden Council in partnership with West Hampstead Amenity and Transport (WHAT) and Veolia.
Available on the council’s website, it shows local cafés and shops that promote reusable coffee cups and recycling of disposable cups.
The council has also installed a public recycling bin in West Hampstead, directly opposite the Tube station.
John Saynor, of WHAT, said: “Over 600,000 single-use coffee cups are thrown away every day in the UK. We’re giving a lead and will try and make a small dent in this figure. Our challenge is get coffee and tea drinkers to use re-usable cups, and where they do use single-use cups, to recycle them. It’s great to have the support of local coffee shops.”
Cllr Adam Harrison said: “WHAT’s research reveals how well local cafes are doing on providing reusable cups and enabling the recycling of disposable cups. I hope people across Camden will get involved.”
