With 38 percent of votes counted Conservative candidate Matthew Laban is leading the poll for the Enfield and Haringey seat on the London Assembly.
Mr Laban, who is an Enfield councillor, is hoping to beat the current holder of the seat, Joanne McCartney.
He said: "Looking at the figures so far it is looking good, I just hope it continues. This is one of the most marginal seats, with around 1,500 votes in it last time. I will be crossing my fingers until the end of the day.
