Students walked for six miles across the capital to raise money for a school trip to China to improve their Mandarin language skills.
Sixth-formers at William Ellis School in Highgate Road walked for five hours from the British Museum in Bloomsbury, where they saw an exhibition of Chinese ceramics, to Tea Trade Wharf in Bermondsey, where tea clipper ships brought tea into London in the 1800s.
The students also visited the Chinese embassy in Marylebone, Chinatown in Soho and The Tea House, in Covent Garden, which is sponsoring the trip.
Pupils raised about £200 each, covering about 20 per cent of the cost of the trip, with the Jack Petchey Foundation, The Philological Foundation and the Chinese Minority Ethnic Culture UK Association also providing funding.
The school has had to fundraise for more than three years for the trip.
