The principal of Westminster Kingsway College has champions the achievements of students in their A-level results.
Emmie Crystal, 18, was one WestKing student celebrating yesterday. She is off to University College London to read Spanish, having achieved A grades in psychology, sociology and Spanish. Emmie, along with fellow student Rafi Islam, appeared live on Channel 5’s The Wright Stuff to talk about A-levels and the options available for young people.
Kim Caplin, principal of Westminster Kingsway College, said: “It’s been another great year for A-levels at Westminster Kingsway, with many of our students getting the grades they need to progress to university or to a job. It’s a testament to the hard work of our students and staff who have prepared students well in a year where past papers and other teaching resources were unavailable.
“The college serves some of London’s poorest areas and a lot of the students we teach come from very challenging backgrounds. So, behind these great statistics are dozens of moving stories of student successes. Students who have either under achieved in education previously or have had to have a break for health reasons in a number of cases have achieved very high grades.
“We have also had excellent results in vocational areas with high progression rates into prestigious universities, apprenticeships and employment. It’s a very proud day for the college and our students.”
Westminster Kingsway also offers BTECs and one student, Andrico Zacharia, has overcome the odds to land a prestigious degree apprenticeship with the leading global financial firm Goldman Sachs.
His tutors at Westminster Kingsway College noticed his tech-savviness and supported him every step of the way through his BTEC Level 3 course in computing and the demanding application process for the some of these programmes. Andrico achieved a Distinction Star grade and turned down an offer from a Russell Group university to join Goldman Sachs’s degree apprenticeship programme.
