Campaigners fighting to set up a free school in West Hampstead have won the support of three state secondary school headteachers and a free school charity.
The NW6 school campaign has been awarded a place on charity New School Network’s (NSN) Development Programme. It helps groups applying to set up a free school to get approval from the Department of Education.
The NW6 campaign was set up by West Hampstead parents, most with children at Emmanuel Church of England Primary in Mill Lane, who are worried there will not be enough Camden secondary school places for their youngsters.
The campaign has the backing of three headteachers, including Dr Alan Davison, of the voluntary-aided and heavily oversubscribed Dame Alice Owen’s School in Hertfordshire, which has consistently high exam results.
Headteachers Elizabeth Phillips, of St Marylebone Church of England School in Marylebone, and Martin Post, of Watford Grammar School for Boys, have also expressed their support.
