University students are to act as role models for Camden pupils as part of a mentoring scheme.
Undergraduate and postgraduate students at University College London (UCL) will mentor pupils at UCL Academy in Adelaide Road, Swiss Cottage, once a month to help them with career options, university choices, and preparations for leaving school, including learning how to budget and revision techniques.
More than 300 pupils at the UCL-sponsored school will benefit from the project. They will meet students face-to-face, as well as talking to them online and accessing resources on a dedicated website.
UCL Academy principal Geraldine Davies said: “The UCL mentoring programme is a fantastic opportunity for our students and is a wonderful example of how UCL can have a positive impact on the confidence and aspirations of students.”
Mark Copestake, UCL education partnerships manager, added: “We piloted a mentoring programme last year and found it is a fantastic way of increasing student links between UCL and the UCL Academy.”
