The head of English at St Anthony’s School for Boys is a double champion after wining two gold medals at the European Masters Marathon Championships in Poland.

Paul Cheetham described it as a “great honour” to run for the Great Britain masters team and take home the individual 45+ and three-man team 45+ gold medals.

He said: “As I ran the last mile in the reasonably safe knowledge that I was ‘European champion’ for my age group, I had the rare chance to reflect on what it means to be a runner and to love running, racing and competing. Some days come out well: others not so well; they’re all important in their own way. They mean nothing, though unless we have other like minded people to share our successes and failures with, whether this be through ‘Strava’, (in my case my fantastically supportive school St. Anthony’s), running club friends or a spouse that is vaguely interested in what we do.”
