Playgrounds are to be transformed into adventure parks with obstacle courses and musical trampolines as part of a scheme to encourage children to be more active.
New outdoor play spaces at seven Camden schools were given the green light last week and are due to be installed in September.
Schools chosen for the Camden Active Spaces programme are: Carlton Primary, Gospel Oak; St Dominic’s Primary, Gospel Oak; Acland Burghley, Tufnell Park; Haverstock, Chalk Farm; Torriano Junior and Infant, Kentish Town and Argyle Primary, King’s Cross.
Pupils and their parents took part in a series of workshops earlier this year to shape designs for the play spaces. The programme has been jointly funded by Camden Council and Camden’s Clinical Commissioning Group, which pledged £785,000 to the project.
Cllr Angela Mason, cabinet member for children, said: “Regular physical exercise is an important part of a child’s development and so I’m delighted that these specially designed play areas will now become a valued resource in seven of our schools.”
