The Queen has awarded Central School of Speech and Drama a new regal title to mark the Diamond Jubilee year.
The leading school in Eton Avenue, Swiss Cottage – whose famous alumnae include Lord Laurence Olivier, Vanessa Redgrave, Rupert Everett and Dame Judi Dench – will have the word Royal added to its name to recognise its contribution to British theatre.
Dame Judi, a former president of the school, said: “I followed my brother there when it was housed at the Royal Albert Hall, and my daughter followed me after it was relocated to the Embassy Theatre, so we have a strong family connection and joint interest in seeing the school elevated in this year.”
She added: “I am so pleased that Her Majesty The Queen has conferred Royal title upon Central, as this magnificent Diamond Jubilee year comes to a close.”
